A international thriller set in Argentina, the story is enthralling from the beginning. I felt like I was in a James Bond movie. The characters are all so well rounded and developed and this is not like reading a short story but a novel. Bravo to the authors.
David Bruns and J.R. Olson have written a terrifying novella based on real events. They have delineated their characters fully with a few strokes of the pen. The plot is fast paced and a page turner. The book is a good prequel for Weapons Of Mass Destruction.
Even though you know there is going to be a death, the fact that this very dedicated man is going to die for working hard to bring justice to his countrymen is so wrong, you want a different ending. I wanted him to live and give his report. The more I learned about the victim the greater I felt the injustice. This story was intriguing to me in a very specific way, not just a generalized 'conspiracy theory' way. It appears well researched, plausible, and answers all but the final question. My next stop will definitely be Weapons of Mass Deception.
This is short story and a companion to the Weapons of Mass Deception (WMD) series. The story alternately is told by Alberto Nisman, a special prosecutor in Buenos Aries trying to uncover a governmental conspiracy, and Rafiq, an assassin working with Hezbollah. Rafiq is assigned the task of assassinating Nisman. I was very impressed with the story and the writing. I wasn’t sure went I picked the story up that I would enjoy it but the authors do an excellent job of taking the reader into the drama. The story is short and succinct and I really enjoyed it. I would like to thank the authors for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to reading more from these authors.
WOW! I have not read the book WEAPONS OF MASS DECEPTION, so I can state that this tale can completely stand alone. The title foreshadows the end throughout, so you would think there could be no surprises, but you would be wrong. The story, obviously, is about HOW the end is reached, and I was not expecting what I found. I can't even put into words the specific emotional impact. READ IT.
I received a free PDF, asking me to review it, from David Bruns' newsletter. Darned if I know how I got on it—I've never read anything else by him that I know of, and I'm not into military thrillers, which the book this is a spin-off from is—but I'm glad I did!
This is a Short Story with elements of Conspiracy and International Intrigue.
Argentina experienced tragedy and one man's vow to get justice is taken away hours before it could happen.
Although this is based on actual events, some of the characters are from the Weapons of Mass Deception series. Don't worry it isn't necessary to have read the first book. Just the same I plan on reading in the near future. That being said, I really enjoyed this short story, which didn't feel short. It kept me reading in between bouts of real life. Speaking of which, before I read the afterword section, I didn't know this was based on actual events. I guess that shows that fact and fiction have a very fine line.
Warning There is Violence as well as Adult Language and Situations.

An excellent companion piece to Weapons of Mass Deception, "Death of a Pawn" puts you right back into the intrigue and tension of that novel. With a plot ripped from today's headlines--and a serendipitous timing of real events that meshed perfectly with the authors' timeline--the story reads like a sideline adventure from a great, immersive gaming experience. Highly recommended!
